10 killed, 39 injured in UP train accidents

Etawah, Jan 2: Latest reports on the train accidents in Uttar Pradesh have put up the death toll at 10.

Separate accidents involving five trains were reported early on Saturday, Jan 2. Low visibility due to dense fog is believed to have caused the accidents.

About 39 were injured in the accidents, out of which 15 people were injured seriously.

In the accident involving Bhiwani-Gorakhpur Gorakhdham Express colliding into Prayagraj Express at Panki railway station in Kanpur district, seven men and three women were killed, said GM, North Central Railway, Allahabad Zone, Harishchandra Joshi.

An enquiry has been ordered to determine the exact reason behind the accident.

A compensation of Rs five lakh to the family of those killed, one lakh to those seriously injured and Rs 10,000 for those with minor injuries was announced.

In another accident, the Gorakhdham Express hit Delhi-Allahabad Prayagraj Express at the station.

No details on the accident involving Lichavi Express and Delhi-Islampur Magadh Express at Saraibhopat near Etawah was available. Initial reports suggested that the driver of Lichavi express among others died in the accident.
