Washington, Dec 31: America has held Britain responsible for the rise in Islamic extremism, citing that UK's failure to curb extremism.
Referring to the recent attempt to set off explosives in a US plane by a Nigerian national who was reportedly radicalised in London, Senior policymakers in the United States termed Britain as the biggest threat to United States.
"The British have an immense problem. There are more challenges in Muslim immigrants integrating into British society than there is in America, a lack of assimilation, a great deal of alienation," said Charles Allen, a recently-retired veteran CIA officer who was intelligence chief at the Department of Homeland Security under Bush.
Sharing Allen's concern, Professor Anthony Glees, director of Brunel University's Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies said that Britain has become a breeding ground for extremism.
Abdulmutallab, the accused in the failed terror attack on Christmas eve was president of the Islamic Society at University College London between 2006 and 2007,during his studies for engineering degree.
