Nigeria airports to install 3-D scanner

Nigeria airports to install 3-D scanner
Abuja, Dec 31: A week after a Nigerian national was caught in foiled terror attack in a US plane, Nigeria has decided to install 3-D scanners at major airports for screening air travelers to restrict terrorist from going on board.

Four major airports of Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt will have the scanners installed.

Harold Demuren, director-general of the country's Civil Aviation Authority, said that the scanners will be imported from Europe or the US, adding that anyone who refused to be scanned will be barred from the aircraft.

Demuren said that the scanner will also be used to control drug trafficking.

The move came after reports that Abdulmutallab, the accused in the foiled terror attack in US plane, had started off from Lagos' Murtala Muhammad International Airport to Detroit.

Immediately after Abdulmutallab's arrest on Dec 28, Nigeria's Federal Airports Authority imported 14 walk-through metal detectors to highthen surveillance at the airports.
