1984 riots: CBI gets nod to prosecute Sajjan Kumar
New Delhi, Dec 31: Home Ministry has granted permission to the CBI to prosecute Congress leader Sajjan Kumar for his alleged role in 1984 anti-Sikh riots in New Delhi.

Earlier, CBI had sought permission to prosecute Congress leaders Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar, accused in the 1984 riots.

Addressing a press conference, Chidambaram said, "While in four cases, the CBI has sought permission under Section 196 CrPC from the Competent Authority to prosecute the accused persons, in one case the closure has been filed and accepted by the court."

The Home Minister was responding a question on the progress of relief and steps taken to punish the guilty involved in the anti-Sikh riots.

Kumar is accused of leading mobs in Sultanpuri area of Delhi where 49 people were killed in 1984.
