US: Mom fights for burial with dead son

US: Mom fights for burial with dead son
Washington, Dec 30: Mother of a slain American soldier, Denise Anderson is fighting to be buried with her son who died in the Iraq war on Nov 12, 2008.

Mourning the lost of her son, Corey Shea, Anderson has sought a waiver to be buried with her beloved son in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

However, the veterans affairs department rejected her plea saying that Anderson has to die first inorder to qualify for the waiver.

"It was the most devastating blow that I could ever get," Anderson said. "I just miss him so much. Just being with him will give me some peace."

Although the government burial policy is applicable only to the spouses or kids of dead veterans, waivers have earlier been granted four similar requests in 2005 from parents of dead soldiers.

Anderson is joined in her protest by congressman, Rep Barney Frank, and Senator John Kerry.

Frank and Kerry are working towards the approval of the Corey Shea Act which grants burial privileges to biological or adoptive parents of dead veterans who are buried within 130 cemeteries run by the National Cemetery Administration.
