Nigerian terror suspect's father had warned US

Washington, Dec 27: US intelligence officials were informed about the Nigerian Nigerian terror suspect, who tried to blow up a US plane midair, in Nov 2009 when his father reportedly approached the US embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, to express his concerns about his son.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's name came up in US intelligence reports about four weeks ago as having a connection to both al-Qaeda and Yemen, revealed a Congressional official, on the condition of anonymity.

Another government official confirmed that the father of the terror suspect did inform the American embassy in Abuja about his son.

But the father did not have any specific information that would put Umar on the 'no-fly list' or on the list for additional security checks at the airport, the official informed.

He also pleaded for anonymity as he was not authorised to speak to media.
