Exotic snow sculptures at Gulmarg attracts tourists

Gulmarg (Jammu and Kashmir), Dec 27 (ANI): Sculptures carved out of snow have become a major attraction among the tourists in the snow covered hill resort of Gulmarg here.

The credit goes to the initiatives taken by the local youngsters who have a flair for snow sculpture.

The tourists, who have come all the way from the hot plains, are excited to see the sculptures carved out of snow.

Many tourists have got the opportunity to witness such snow sculptures for the first time in their lives.

"I have visited many ski resorts all over the world and the idea of making snow sculptures over here is unique. I think the people have spent a lot of time to create and this is a good attraction for the tourists," said Mary, a tourist from Greece.

A workshop was also organised recently to popularise snow sculpting. A lot of creative and performing arts students took part in it.

Ghulam Hussain Wani, a snow sculpture in Gulmarg said, "We thought that sculptures made out of stones can remain forever, but those out of snow cannot. So, we started sculpting structures out of snow."

"Our main idea was to attract the tourists from worldwide; we want to show that there are many structures that we can carve out of snow," he added. (ANI)
