BJP opposes J&K autonomy report

BJP opposes J&K autonomy report
New Delhi, Dec 23: While the prime minister is considering setting up a panel on recommending autonomy to Jammu-Kashmir, BJP has opposed the government's move.

Pointing out the 2 years gap in meeting held between Working Group, Arun Jaitley, BJP leader and a member of the Working Group has questioned the validity of the report.

Jaitley had reportedly written a letter to prime minister Manmohan Singh expressing concern over matter.

"Why over two years after the virtual abandonment of the Working Group, this report was unilaterally authored? What was the compulsion to by-pass the Working Group? I have an uneasy feeling the Government wants to show to sections of the international community that it is willing to dilute the Indian position on J-K," wrote Jaitley.

He said that Working Group's report was personal opinion of the Justice Saghir Ahmed or of those, who helped him draft it and was far from being a consensus report.

As per recommendations, Center will only have control over defence, foreign policy and currency.
