Rathore close aid of Chautala: Ruchika's father

Ruchika's father breaks silence
Chandigarh, Dec 24: The father of the molestation victim Ruchika Girhotra broke his silence for the first time and alleged that the ex-DGP SPS Rathore got help from former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala.

Hinting that the culprit had political support which kept the him from being punished, SC Girhotra told media persons on Thursday, Dec 24, that Rathore was a close aide of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Chautala.

"The 6 month prison term given to Rathore has hurt us," the father said.

Ruchika's family was forced to flee the state after the incident fearing persecution.

In fact, Ruchika's brother was booked in a slew of false theft cases.

In Aug 1990, the ex-DGP molested the budding tennis player in his office-cum-residence. Facing humiliation everyday, Ruchika committed suicide.

The case has been pursued by victim's friend Aradhana and her father. After 19 years, a CBI court passed a judgment on the case

Rathore was sentenced to 6 months in prison and was slapped with the fine of Rs 1000 on Monday, Dec 21. However, he did not even spend a single day in jail as he walked out free with a bail.

The late and light judgment has invited heavy critism from political leaders to activists.
