Johnson shuns IPL lure to play for Australia

Melbourne, Dec 24(ANI): Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson is likely to defy the temptation of playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the third year in a row.

Johnson's manager Sam Halvorsen has said he will put his country before cash by ignoring the lure of a six-figure offer from the rich Twenty20 league.

"We want to protect him from the wear and tear. The decision was made easier because of our concern over the auction process," The Daily Telegraph quoted Halvorsen, as saying.

"He might have been able to play half the tournament, but at this stage we feel the break will be better for him," he added.

The 28-year-old would have been one of the most sought-after names for the third season of the IPL had he decided to nominate.

The decision may cost the International Cricket Council's cricketer of the year around 200,000 dollars.(ANI)
