Environment is our collective responsibility: PM
New Delhi, Dec 17: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday, Dec 17, said that India remains committed towards protecting the environment and willing to do more to fight climate change.

"India looked forward to working with the rest of the world to preserve and protect our environment," he said ahead of his visit to Copenhagen for the climate change summit.

"This is our common heritage and this is what we must bequeath to our succeeding generations. At the same time, climate change cannot be addressed by perpetuating the poverty of the developing countries," he said.

He further said, "I look forward to constructive deliberations in Copenhagen which meet the collective aspirations of all humankind and enable us to move forward in the global efforts to combat climate change."

Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao, along with Prime Minister's Special Envoy on Climate Change Shyam Saran, are among senior officials accompanying the Prime Minister to Copenhagen on the two-day visit.

I think cutting down of trees is the major issue. I think Plantation drives are the best ways to preserve our environment. The recent one, which I participated in through jaagore.com was a Sapling Project initiated by Mr. Satish Vijaykumar - it was a great experience! I think we need some more initiatives like this, especially in Mumbai.
