Copenhagen summit badly handled: Ramesh

Copenhagen summit badly handled: Ramesh
Copenhagen, Dec 17: 48 hours before the Copenhagen summit comes to an end, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh has nothing but remorse over the way the negotiations on climate change were held.

“Unfortunately, I feel that this entire conference, the entire process has been very, very badly handled," Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said after the three hours discussion with Brazil, South Africa and China on Wednesday night, Dec 16.

The four basic countries met up to discuss the a plan of action on the two texts which they have been working on for more than a week.

Blaming Denmark for its poor handling of the talks, Ramesh said that the developed countries cannot be blamed if the talks fail.

“If the talks fail, it would be because the developed countries have not fulfilled their commitments under the Kyoto Protocol. The developing countries led by India, China, Brazil, South Africa, the African group and the G-77 have worked very hard to bring the negotiations back on track," he said.

Indian delegation for the Summit level talks on Dec 18 will be led by prime Minister Manmohan Singh who will reach Copenhagen on Dec 17.
