Rana denied bail on 'risk' that he would flee US

US court denies bail to Rana
Chicago, Dec 16: A court here denied bail to terror suspect Tahawwur Hussain Rana, who has been charged with plotting terror attacks outside US, citing that there was a 'risk' that he could flee the country if released on bail.

"I am sure you would be disappointed. But you have to keep doing the best you are doing," said US Magistrate Judge Nan Nolan told Rana while announcing the decision.

The Chicago court made this judgement based on 'risk of flight' noting that the Pakistan-born terror suspect still maintains strong ties with his family in Canada.

On Wednesday, Dec 15, US prosecutors filed a memo in the court revealing the conversation between Rana and co-conspirator David Coleman Headley talking about the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Rana allegedly had complimented Lashkar-e-Toiba on the Nov 2008 attacks in India saying that they did a 'good job'.

While Headley has been charged with plotting the terror attacks in India, Rana still denies involvement.

Pakistan-born American Headley and Rana were arrested by FBI in Oct 2009 after receiving information that they were plotting attacks in Denmark.
