Tests not the place for experimenting with referral system: Ponting

Adelaide, Dec.9 (ANI): Trialling of the decision review system should have taken place in one-dayers and Twenty20, not in Tests, feels Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting.

The Australian skipper last night met with umpires to discuss the system, and also pushed for the use of additional technology like the "snickometer" after having two caught behind chances turned down.

"Ideally, a lot of those things with rule changes, we've brought into 50-over cricket over the last couple of years. Ideally you'd like to have trialled them elsewhere," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Ponting, as saying.

"In the last 12 months, the review system was used that was more a trial period. We know that it's going to be used in every Test series from now on. I still think there's some refinement that can be done with the actual technology that's used," he added.

"We're all still coming to terms with it. The more we play with it and experience it, I guess the more we'll appreciate it," Ponting said.

Windies counterpart Chris Gayle was unwilling to enter the debate again - having voiced his disapproval of the system in Brisbane - only saying it was "complicated".

Ponting maintained his view that the DRS would be better for cricket. (ANI)
