Clark waiting in the wings to replace hurt Siddle

Melbourne, Dec.9 (ANI): The Australian selectors may be forced to send an SOS to forgotten fast bowler Stuart Clark after the team was pushed into retreat by the West Indies in the second Test in Adelaide.

With first choice fast bowlers Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus nursing injuries, the selection committee and captain Ricky Ponting are of the view that Clark may need to be brought in.

Ponting said last night that Australia may have to send a call to arms to 34-year-old Clark.

"I'm sure that Stuey's name will come up into consideration for the squad for Perth," Fox Sports quoted Ponting, as saying.

"Hopefully Peter (Siddle) comes up, I had to protect him a little bit yesterday. As you could see with the way he was running in, he was nowhere near 100 per cent. We've just got to monitor him over the next few days, he's going back to Melbourne and our team physio will be spending a couple of days with him," he added.

Clark's 24-Test career appeared all but over when he was overlooked for the first two Tests, but all cards are now on the table as Australia deals with a fresh injury crisis. (ANI)
