India-Russia to sign civil nuclear pact on Dec 7

Moscow, Dec 7: India and Russia will signed the civil nuclear pact on Monday, Dec 7 after prime minister Manmohan Singh's summit talk with the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, in addition to the three defence agreements.

The pact will ensure that India gets an uninterrupted supply of uranium fuel from Moscow even if the bilateral ties between the two countries get terminated.

The atomic cooperation is significant for India as it will keep India in a good position to return the fuel and components already supplied from US just in case the 123 nuclear agreement gets terminated.

Sources said that new pact could pave way for the transfer of enrichment and reprocessing technology subject to certain conditions, which is a step ahead of the Indo-Russia nuke pact which is confined to setting up of nuclear sites in India.

Prime minister Manmohan Singh arrived in Russia to attend the three-day Kremlin Summit on Dec 6 to hold talks with President Dmitry Medvedev.

He will also meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
