Mumbai: Protests over 15 pc water cut, 1 killed

Mumbai, Dec 3: According to latest reports, one person has been killed and several others were injured, when police baton-charged demonstrators protesting against water cuts on Thursday, Dec 3.

According to officials, protestors of an NGO 'Swabhiman' started protesting against the introduction of 15 per cent water cut, in front of Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Officials said, an unspecified number of agitators received injuries when the riot police used force to disperse them from the BMC headquarters in south Mumbai this afternoon.

Waving red flags and shouting slogans against BMC, the agitators pulled down barricades put up by the police and tried to barge into the Corporation headquarters, prompting the security personnel to lathicharge.

Sources said, the area has been cleared of the agitators.

Mumbai: BMC gives milk to students from June 15

Mumbai, May 19: The Standing Committee of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to give 200 ml flavoured milk daily free-of-cost to students of the civic body-run schools in the metropolis. ''The BMC school students will be given flavoured milk free of cost from June 15 this year,'' said Mangesh Satamkar, Chairman of the Education Committee of the BMC. It is the worst, inefficient, corrupt, poor performance dept. I think it is high time the government privatize all services. Or there should be a commission like the CERC, to look into the performance of Municipal Corporation All over India and to set standards for minimum services expected from such organization.
