New Delhi, Dec 1: New Delhi, Dec 1: The Indian Government has said it has asked the Army to look into the Darjeeling land scam issue and take appropriate decision.
Speaking to reporters, Minister of state for defence M M Pallam Raju said, "Whenever there is irregularity in any procedure or any of the functioning, the service looks into the matter and take appropriate steps."
"The ministry had directed the Army to look into the matter and they will take appropriate decisions," he added.
Top Army Generals indicted in Darjeeling land scam
Two top Army Generals have been indicted by a Court of Inquiry (COI) for their role in a land scam in Darjeeling and found culpable.
According to Army sources, the COI headed by Lt Gen K T Parnaik indicted Lt Gen Avadesh Prakash and Lt Gen P K Rath for their role in issuing a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to a private establishment that falsely claimed to be establishing an affiliate of the famed Ajmer-based Mayo College.
The Army COI investigated the allegations that some Generals and other senior officers had issued a NOC to the private institution that bought the land adjacent to the Sukhna military station in Darjeeling a few years ago.
Now, the Army headquarters is awaiting the inquiry report to order summary of evidence against those found culpable in the land fraud, sources added.
Lt Gen Prakash is one of the top eight Generals in the headquarters acting as advisors to Army chief General Deepak Kapoor.
Lt Gen Rath was all set to go the Army headquarters as one of the principal staff officers to the chief, but his posting has been kept in abeyance pending the probe.
