Govt. has commuted death sentence of Govindasamy to life

New Delhi, Dec.1 (ANI): The death sentence of the condemned prisoner R. Govindasamy was commuted to life imprisonment under Article 72 of the Constitution of India in the month of November, Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram revealed on Tuesday.

He will remain in prison for the remainder of his natural life.The decision was conveyed to the Government of Tamil Nadu on November 23, 2009, said Chidambaram. (ANI)

More than 43 per cent increase in direct tax: Govt

New Delhi, Nov 30: The net collection of direct taxes during April-October 2007 was Rs 128,864 crore, a 43.15 per cent increase over the corresponding period of the last fiscal, the Lok Sabha was informed today. Of this, the corporate tax collection was Rs 78,785 crore (a 45.70 per cent rise), and personal income tax collection Rs 50,079 crore (a 39.32 per cent rise), Minister of State for Finance S S Palanimanickam said in a written reply. Coca Cola banned near temples in Bangalore

Bangalore: The State Govt banned the sale of carbonated drinks near 2,000temples with immediate effect. Carbonated drinks are also banned near educatinal institutions, private and Govt hospitals. Sources say that 13 aerated drinks have been banned in shops and establishments within a radius of 100 feet of temples. The Government has filed a case against Coca-Cola under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, however, similar cases have been filed against Thums Up and Mirinda. Karnataka is the first state to file a case.....

Japanese govt under fire for rewriting wartime history in school textbooks

London, Jan 9 (ANI): Japanese government is under attack for its apparent attempts to rewrite its wartime past in the new school textbooks.The government had decided two years ago to delete or rewrite references to 1945 Battle of Okinawa in the history books, where the military apparently forced the civilians into mass suicides faced with defeat.According to new reports, education officials have agreed to restore the passages in new books, but it will not contain the word "forced" in.....
