Britain to closely monitor plans for 5,000-place Muslim girls' boarding school

London, Dec. 1 (ANI): The British Government has vowed to closely monitor construction plans for a 5,000-place Muslim girls' boarding school.

This would be the biggest boarding school in the UK, dwarfing the 1,311-place Eton College for boys and the 640-place Cheltenham Ladies' College, The Daily Express reports.

The government's plans were revealed by Diana Johnson, the Under Secretary for Schools.

She was responding to a question from Gordon Prentice, Labour MP for Pendle in Lancashire, who warned that building a school in his constituency could "undermine community cohesion".

Charity Islamic Help has launched a funding drive to raise one million pounds to buy a building that would also include centres for teacher training and counselling.

It pointed out that there was a huge demand, as 45 per cent of the UK's Muslim women have no academic qualifications. (ANI)

Washington, Mar 2: Major powers made progress on agreeing on new sanctions on Iran and hope to have their UN ambassadors begin drafting a formal UN Security Council resolution next week, a senior US official said.The official told Reuters that political directors representing the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany ''were able to resolve most of the issues'' in a two-hour conference call yesterday and hoped to complete their deliberations in another conference call tomorrow.Reuters.....
