Day 3: Virus attacks, technical gliches mar CAT
New Delhi, Nov 30: Virus attacks and technical glitches continue to disrupt the first ever online Common Admission Test (CAT) even on the third day, upsetting thousands of IIM aspirants.

Technical problems stopped students from taking the exam in at a few centres in Mumbai, Bangalore and Ghaziabad.

Frustrated students who could not take the exam in IMS Ghaziabad even went up to the extent of launching a protest.

Malfunctioning computers have already stopped over 4,000 students from taking the test during the first two days of the exams.

Directors of the Indian Institutes of Management are enraged over exam delivery of Prometric. Prometric had been given 40 million dollar contract of computerising the testing process which has till now been conducted in a paper and pencil format.

I m also an aspirant of CAT 09. My center was in BHOPAL on 30th Nov. 2009. TIT faculty didn't allow more than 100 aspirants to enter the hall due to get late by 5 mins... they gave entry till 8:45am so why they didnt give entry on 8:50am.. Moreover, they didnt accept any of the photo identification except driving license..They did alot injustice with 100 students, they allow only 22 students to give exam.... I request IIMs to please reschedule our exams and do full justice with all students... As my appointment time is 10am, but prometric didnot mention anywhere of closing entries by 8:30 am in our admit cards. So, please do something.. I am requesting IIMs to please take our exams again.

I also appeared for the same exam on 30th November,2009. My center was in Faridabad, a renowned college which being at an interior location, was itself a tough task to find. Additionally the facilities provided and the uninformed staff took everyone of us on nerves. As we were asked to report the test-center by 1:00 pm for the second shift (which was suppose to start at 3:30pm sharp), i reached there at 12:30pm after traveling for 3 hrs, we waited there for around 5 hours till the morning batch completed their exam at 5pm (who were called at 8am in the morning) after them we were asked to enter the testing area, wherein after a security check of 30 min, we sat at our designated systems. We sat there for about 1 hour until we were asked to leave the systems,go back and reschedule our exam (due to server failure). NOW, Being a CAT aspirant i know what respect do people have for this exam and for the IIMs too but after facing so many problems, i don't think that we will be able to maintain it. It was not Testing-of-Intellect rather i would call it as Patience-Checking and a frustrating experience for those who are giving it for the first time and also for those who are giving it as a One-Shot last try. Although they have charged more money from us this time but no such facilities were seen that made it worth Rs 1400. So please, it is a request that asl them not to repeat this trial in future otherwise most of us, out of confusion, will stop dreaming of such big named exams. Keep it as simple as earlier (a paper-pencil based exam).
