Kalyan calls Dec 6, '92, a day of national pride

Dec 6, a day of national pride: Kalyan
New Delhi, Nov 24: Expressing no remorse on the demolition of Babri Masjid, Kalyan Singh, former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh said on Nov 24, that Dec 6 was a day of national pride and not a national shame.

Singh said that Ram temple will be constructed in Ayodhya and there is nothing which can stop it from being constructed.

"There is nothing in this world which can prevent the Ram temple from being constructed. If anyone tries to stop it from being constructed then there would be dreadful consequences. I asked the Muslims and Hindus to arrive at a consensus for the Ram temple as Ram was also the forefather of all Indian Muslims", he said.

Reacting to his indictment by the Liberhan report for failing to prevent the demolition of Babri Masjid, Kalyan singh said that he did all he could to prevent the Masjid from being demolished.

Stating that there has been no lapse in security arrangement, Singh said that security cover alone cannot prevent things from happening, adding that the best examples were the assassinations of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi.

"My government provided full security on December 6, 1992. There was explicit orders to security forces not to allow any Kar sevaks in the disputed area," he said.

Singh said that he had asked the security personals not to open fire at the kar sevak out of security reasons.

"I had said that there should be no firing of bullets because if there was firing, thousands of kar sevaks would have been killed and there would have been a situation of stampede." he explained.
