New Delhi, Nov 24: After the Home Minister, P Chidambaram tabled the English version of the Liberhan Commission report on the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case in the Parliament on Tuesday, Nov 24, the government said that it accepted all the recommendations made by the Commission and promised 'positive action'.
"We have not rejected the recommendations. Each and every recommendation has been accepted and noted. The government is bound to take positive action," law minister Veerappa Moily said.
He further said that the government may go beyond the recommendations and 'pick up from the conclusions' as well.
Answering a question on what the government was contemplating, Moily said, "It has already formulated the Action Taken report (ATR). The Liberhan Commission is a fact-finding mission and further to that each ministry is expected to take on that and take action."
"ATR is clearly indictment of 68 persons, who are responsible for all this episode. ATR also contains offences which one has collected. Government has to take positive action," he said, stressing that that the 'country needs justice' as the Dec 6, 1992 event has done 'irreparable damage' to secular India.
The Congress-led government was forced to table the report after a newspaper published details of the report on Monday, Nov 23.
The report said that the Commission had indicted top brass of the BJP which sparked off an uproar in the parliament led by the Opposition BJP demanding the immediate tabling of the report.
