Panesar blames measly 7,500 pounds for England career decline

London, Nov 21 (ANI): England spinner of Indian origin Monty Panesar has revealed his anger at how his international cricket career went into decline for the sake of 7,500 pounds.

The left-arm spinner is convinced that his slump started a year ago when the ECB refused to pay for him to play club cricket in Sri Lanka.

Now Panesar has been left out of all of England squads for this winter and lost his central contract.

Panesar was due to play for Bloomfield in Colombo last November and the ECB offered 500 pounds towards their new clubhouse. Bloomfield asked for 7,500 pounds, but that request was rejected, The Sun reports.

Panesar, who signed for Sussex last week, said: "That was the start of a phase when things didn't go my way. I wasn't prepared for the Chennai Test I didn't have any cricket under my belt."

"Because of the unfortunate terrorist attack in Mumbai, I was never in a place where I could get my rhythm. I didn't play any cricket and suddenly we had a Test match. I was put in at the deep end up against Sachin Tendulkar. It felt like fighting a heavyweight boxer in his own ring," he said.

"When I came home I listened to lots of people and tried to please everyone instead of valuing a few opinions," Panesar added.

After his move to Sussex, Panesar has donated 10,000 pound to Northants to thank them for their support over the years. (ANI)
