Mumbai, Nov 21: After coming under the public scanner for his mishandling of 26/11 operations, former Mumbai police commissioner Hasan Gafoor said in a ZeeNews report on Friday, Nov 20, that he was the ordered by a top Maharashtra police officer to remove National Security Guards (NSG) from the 26/11 operations as they were taking to much time to wind up.

"I was told to withdraw the NSG and instead use the Mumbai police for the ongoing operations. The DGP told me that the entire world was watching us and so we should put an immediate end to the siege and help defuse the crisis.  I said it was even preposterous to even think of taking off the NSG," he said.

Gafoor also said that the decision was taking in a meeting called by the then state deputy home minister RR Patil on Nov 28 with top police officers, including the DGP, at the state police headquarters in which the DGP suggested that Mumbai Police brought in the operations in place of the NSG commandos as they were taking too much time.

The decision resulted in his shifting from the position and he was made a DGP (Housing).

Crediting the success of the 26/11 operations to the NSG commandos, Gafoor said that it would not have been possible to map the movement of the terrorists without their help.
