
Chennai, Nov 20: Receiving information that a ship which was on its way from Vishakapatnam was carrying radioactive material, officials from Customs and other security agencies conducted checks on a Malta-registered ship on Friday, Nov 20.
According to the police, an anonymous caller told the officials that the ship identified as 'Garland' was carrying radioactive materials.
It is a merchant ship and had been docked in the Chennai Port limits, Coast Guard officials infromed. Special teams are expected to land here soon to conduct a thorough check.
"Experts from Kalpakkam nuclear plant are expected to make a thorough check to ascertain whether it is carrying radioactive material," the officials said.
