London, Nov 20: Former Guantanamo detainee has alleged that Britain had clear knowledge of barbaric torture technique meted out against detainees of Guantanamo Bay.
Binyam Mohamed, a Guantanamo detainee whose genitals were cut off using razor blade said that the Britain had acively colluded in the torture done on him.
Mohamed's claim was supported by the High Court judgement which said that One of those memoranda dated August 1 2002, from Mr J S Bybee, Assistant Attorney-General, to Mr John Rizzo, acting General Counsel of the CIA showed stark resemblance between the technique employed on Mohamed and those employed against Mr Zubaydah, alleged to be a high-ranking member of al-Qaeda.
"Of itself, the treatment to which Mr Mohamed was subjected could never properly be described in a democracy as 'a secret' or an 'intelligence secret' or 'a summary of classified intelligence'," it added.
It has been said that the secret reports exchanged between MI5 and the CIA in 2002 revealed the employment of torture techniques like waterboarding, facial slaps and stress positions by American Security services.
Refusing to disclose MI5 documents citing violation of Britain's intelligence-sharing relationship with the US, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband has taken up the issue with Court of Appeal.
