US recognises Tibet as part of China: Obama

US recognises Tibet as part of China: Obama
Beijing, Nov 17: President Barack Obama on Tuesday, Nov 17, met his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao and said US government recognizes Tibet as part of China.

"We did note that while we recognise that Tibet is part of the People's Republic of China, the United States supports the early resumption of dialogue between the Dalai Lama's representatives and Beijing," US President said.

Obama said that China's partnership has helped the United States pull out of the worst recession in a generation.

Chinese President Hu Jintao hailed US President Barack Obama's recognition of sovereignty issues dear to China.

Speaking to reporters, Hu said, "China approves of President Obama's repeated reiteration of the one-China principle."

Earlier, Obama did not meet Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, when he was in Washington.

But the Dalai Lama had said they may meet after Obama returns from China, which condemns the Buddhist monk as a separatist for demanding Tibetan self-determination.
