India, Canada delegation-level talks today

New Delhi, Nov 17 (ANI): A number of pacts, including one in the field of civil nuclear cooperation, are expected to be signed when Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh meets his Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper for the delegation-level talks here this evening.

The two countries are also expected to announce the launch of feasibility study for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

The talks will aim at giving a push to the trade between the two countries, which stands at five billion dollars, much below the actual potential.

Premier Harper will also call on President Pratibha Devisingh Patil at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

He will lay a wreath at Rajghat, the memorial of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

He will then call on the Vice President, Mohammad Hamid Ansari at the latter's official residence.

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the leader of the opposition L.K. Advani will also call on him.

On Wednesday, Harper will visit the Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in East Delhi and then leave for Amritsar. He will return to Delhi later in the evening and emplane for Ottawa later in the night. (ANI)

Canada says will clamp down on foreign strippers

Ottawa, May 17: Canada will start denying work permits to foreign strippers to prevent them from being abused and to clamp down on human trafficking, Immigration Minister Diane Finley said. Laws will be changed to allow immigration officers to deny work permits to foreign strippers if authorities believe there is a strong possibility they could be subjected to humiliating and degrading treatment, including sexual exploitation.
