Democratic regimes in India have barred terrorism from country : Sharif

Lahore, Nov.17 (ANI): Stressing on the need for a strong democratic set-up in the country, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif has said that terrorism can not prevail in India for long, as democracy is deep rooted in that nation.

"Democratic regimes in India has barred terrorism from the country," Sharif said.

Blaming the subsequent military regimes in Pakistan for the country's turbulent situation, Sharif said terrorism flourished mainly in dictatorial rules.

"To eradicate terrorism, the door should be slammed shut on martial law forever," The Daily Times quoted Sharif, as saying.

Commenting on the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), he said the controversial ordinance was still lying before the court of law for the final decision and noted that President Asif Ali Zardari enjoyed special immunity under the constitution.

Sharif said court must take note of the special immunity enjoyed by Zardari and take proper action on the issue. (ANI)
