ActionAid's photo exhibition in Delhi to combat hunger

New Delhi, Nov 17 (ANI): British television actor Katherine Kelly inaugurated a photo exhibition titled 'Hunger Free Children' here on Monday.

The exhibition named "Hunger FREE Children!" was jointly organised by a non-profit ActionAid and the British Council.

The exhibition aims to address the issues of poverty of the marginalized communities and child hunger.

The exhibition depicts hundreds of photographs depicting slum children who have fought for their rights and now study at various schools across the country.

Organisers said they wanted to attract the young generation in fighting poverty and hunger.

"We are very interested in inspiring people to take action...so I think the synergy between what we are doing here (At British Council) and the organisers fits very nicely...the exhibition which we and the ActionAid put together is a perfect marriage really so it fits very nicely in our agenda of raising awareness and engaging the future leaders of the country," said Mike Welch, an official with the British Council.

Kelly, who is best known for playing Becky Granger in ITV 'Coronation Street,' the longest running soap-opera in UK, said she wished to go to slums in order to observe the reality.

"I think we just let ourselves to go to slums and see with our eyes the conditions there...the pictures here at this exhibition are fantastic. I think India is such a beautiful and visual country and the power really in photographs and that this exhibition just proves that," said Kelly.

The exhibition will run till November 27. (ANI)
