Lucknow, Nov 16: Vande Mataram will now have an Urdu translation according to a request put forward by All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB).
In a letter sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, board chairman Maulana Mirza Mohammad Athar has sought the arrangement of correct 'tarjuma' (translation) of Vande Matram at the earliest.
"Getting a correct and authentic tarjuma of Vande Matram in Urdu is the best option as it will help the Muslims decide, whether they want to recite the national song or not," said AISPLB spokesman Maulana Yasoob Abbas, adding that repeated controversy over Vande Mataram could result in hatred among two communities.
Calling the debate as communially sensitive, he said that Muslims should be told about the meaning and spirit of Vande Mataram.
A fatwa was issued by Jamiat-Ulema-i-Hind on Nov 3, calling the singing of Vande Mataram as un-islamic.
