BJP calls for Delhi shutdown to protest price rise

BJP calls for Delhi shutdown
New Delhi, Nov 13: Protesting the rise in prices of essential items and the hike in transportation fares, the Delhi arm of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a city-wide shutdown on Friday, Nov 13.

Party leaders Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Vijay Goel, Madan Lal Khurana and former Delhi BJP chief Harshvardhan have jointly appealed to the people of Delhi including traders, industrialists, parents, students, workers and workmen of unorganised sectors to make the protest a successful one by supporting their agitation.

Alleging that the Delhi government has taken several anti-people decisions, including hiking school fees and the Metro and bus fares, the leaders are demanding that the hike in fares be withdrawn and called for enquiry into the bungling in sugar.

BJP also wants to see the public distribution system (PDS) strengthened to ensure that all the essential consumer goods will be available through the PDS on cheap rates.

However, the essential services and transport will not be affected by the protests.
