Food inflation up 13.68pc, vegetables costlier

New Delhi: Soaring vegetables prices led to 13.68 percent food inflation for the week ended Oct 31 against 13.39 percent in the previous week.

While potato will now cost twice the earlier price, the most costliest will be onion with 40 percent surge in price.

Prices of bajra has increased to 3 percent, fruit and vegetables to 2 percent, while prices of jowar, arhar and wheat have risen to 1 percent each during the week.

On the other hand prices of fuel, power, light diesel oil, naphtha and furnace oil declined at 0.2 percent, 3 percent and 2 percent respectively.

Steps taken to bring down Inflation: G K Pillai

Mumbai, Aug 22: Union Secretary for Commerce, G K Pillai on Friday, Aug 22 hinted a possible decline in inflation rate that touched a 13-year high of 12.63 per cent in the week ending August 9.
