Faction of Taliban in favour of talks with US: ex-Afghan minister

Lahore, Nov.12 (ANI): Former Afghan Minister Mullah Wakil Ahmed Mutawakal, who held the post of Foreign Minister in the Taliban government, has said that some leaders of the outlawed outfit are in favour of holding talks with the US.

In an interview with CNN, Mutawakal said certain ranks of the Taliban want to discuss issues with the United States, provided that it pulls out of Afghanistan.

Mutawakal said Afghan issues couldn't be resolved until Washington continues to negotiate with sides that are not the real representatives of the people of Afghanistan.

"The Taliban did not share Al-Qaeda's global agenda of terror. It is not a threat to the world peace," he added.

Mutawakal said if the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan once again, girls would be allowed to pursue education but in separate institutions. He added the Taliban would certainly enforce 'sharia' in the country if it manages to acquire power again. (ANI)
