India terms China's 1962 war provocations 'silly'

China's provocations silly, says Tharoor
New Delhi, Nov 11: Terming China's campaign of using the its media to provoke India with the 1962 war as silly, India on Tuesday, Nov 10 responded strongly against its communist neighbour.

A state-run newspaper Global Times had carried a story in which Hu Shisheng, a researcher at the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, who claimed that India had 'forgotten the lesson' of the 1962 war.

On the same day, China expressed 'dissatisfaction' over India allowing Dalai Lama visit the disputed region of Arunachal Pradesh which it claims it is the part of south Tibet' and accused India of 'disregarding the solemn position of China'.

"Talk of India not learning lessons from 1962 is silly. We are far from 1962 and history does not always repeat itself," Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor said.

"We are not woefully prepared as we were in 1962 and such language will not help. China's articulations in recent weeks have been nothing but an irritant," Tharoor said.

Indo-Sino conflict resurfaced over a month ago when China again claimed the ownership of Arunachal Pradesh. The fight intensified when the Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama decided to visit the state ignoring China's objection. However, India maintained that the Dalai Lama was free to travel anywhere in India
