Cyclone Phyan bypasses Mumbai, alert level reduced

Mumbai, Nov 11 (ANI): Cyclone Phyan bypassed Mumbai and the threat alert has been reduced for the city.

The alert level in neighbouring Gujarat has also been downgraded.

However, heavy rains continue to lash Mumbai and the rainfall is expected to continue for the next 48 hours in the city and adjoining areas.

The seas are rough and ports have been told to reduce their activities for the day.

Earlier, a cyclone alert had been sounded across north Maharashtra and south Gujarat by Meteorological Department in the wake of a deep depression over the southeast and the Arabian Sea.

All schools and offices were shut down by the BMC.

The cyclone alert was not just for Maharashtra, but also for Gujarat.

Mumbai is witnessing such a cyclone after sixty-seven years.

Airline and railway services were also affected by the alert on Wednesday. (ANI)

Pranab eases rice export retrictions to Bangla

Dhaka, Dec 1: Soon on his arrival on a day's visit to cyclone-hit Bangladesh, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee announced lifting restriction on the export of additional 5,00,000 tons of rice to the country. He also expressed India 's willingness to rebuild 10 villages in coastal areas severely affected by Cyclone 'Sidr.' Earlier, the Indian authorities had announced waiver on export of 50,000 tons of rice to Bangladesh in the wake of the cyclone disaster. Mr Mukherjee is the first minister.....
