Cyclone alert issued across Maharashtra, Gujarat coastline

Mumbai/ Ahmedabad, Nov 11 (ANI): A cyclone alert has been sounded across north Maharashtra and south Gujarat, besides coastal areas by Meteorological (Met) Department in the wake of a deep depression over the southeast and the Arabian Sea.

The bulletin said the deep depression (system) is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm.

The Met office has advised fishermen not to venture out to sea in Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat.

It said Mumbai and Thane district will receive very heavy rains for the next twenty-four hours.

Winds reaching speeds of 55-65 kmph, gusting to 75 kmph, are likely to commence along and off the south Gujarat and Kerala coasts, besides Lakshadweep from today.

It will hit Kerala, Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra coasts during the next forty-eight hours. (ANI)

Pranab eases rice export retrictions to Bangla

Dhaka, Dec 1: Soon on his arrival on a day's visit to cyclone-hit Bangladesh, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee announced lifting restriction on the export of additional 5,00,000 tons of rice to the country. He also expressed India 's willingness to rebuild 10 villages in coastal areas severely affected by Cyclone 'Sidr.' Earlier, the Indian authorities had announced waiver on export of 50,000 tons of rice to Bangladesh in the wake of the cyclone disaster. Mr Mukherjee is the first minister.....
