Muslims ignore fatwa, sing Vande Mataram

MP: Muslims sing Vande Mataram
Bhopal, Nov 10: A group of Muslims joined a Vande Mataram rally and sang the national song in front of a Madhya Pradesh mosque flouting the fatwa issued against the 'un-Islamic' song.

On Sunday, Nov 8, a large number of people participated in the rally organised by an NRI and Rukmani Balaji temple's founder Sam Verma.

And when the rally reached the Jama Masjid at Betul Bazar, its Imam Hafiz Abdul Rajid, who believed that there was nothing un-Islamic about the song, called upon the people of his community and asked them to recite the song and many joined in, say reports.

"Vande Mataram is a prayer sung in the honour of 'Mother' and worship of mother is not wrong in any religion," Verma said.

This comes after two prominent Muslim groups in the state including All India Muslim Tehwar Committee (AIMTC) and the National Secularism Front of India (NSFI) clarified that Vande Mataram was not against Islam.

"This is the reason why several Muslim freedom fighters chose to lay down their lives singing Vande Mataram," AIMTC chairman Osaf Shahmeeri Khurram said.
