New Delhi, Nov 10: A Japanese video game called 'Rapelay' that challenges the player to rape women has come under the scanner of legal experts and social activists in India.
Child rights activists and cyber law experts are not only demanding the ban of the game but are also demanding that stringent laws must be put in place so that such games do not enter the Indian market.
Cyber law expert Pawan Duggal claimed that obscene rape games may prove more 'dangerous' than the offence of actual rape.
Information Technology Act, 2000, must be tightened and more expert bodies like the Computer Emergency Reaction Team (Cert-In) under the Information Technology ministry must be created to tackle these kind of issues, he said.
"These rape games are more dangerous than an actual rapist. A rapist may abuse one or two women before being caught, but obscene Japanese rape games like Rapelay would surely infect young and impressionable minds and lure them into becoming a pervert rapist," Duggal said.
Created by the Japanese firm, Illusion, Rapelay is a three-dimensional pornographic game. The game is slowly entering the Indian markets as it can be downloaded from websites hosted abroad. Apart from this the game's pirated Compact Discs too have reached India.
"I am just shocked that such a game can even be visualised and created. The Indian government must step in and ensure that the game is banned in the country," Sandhya Bajaj, a member of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) was quoted as saying in a news agency report.
However the police has admitted that it tough to check what enters the Indian markets through the piracy and when it comes to downloading from the Internet it responsibility rests on the cyber crime branch.
