Agassi should not have hidden or lied about drug abuse: Navratilova

New York, Nov. 10 (ANI): Former women's tennis champion Martina Navratilova has compared Andre Agassi to Roger Clemens, the former major league pitching great, who was widely believed to have used steroids, but denied it.

Responding to Agassi's visibly shaken comment that he would have liked to see fellow players showing him compassion and understanding over his drug abuse during his playing days, Navratilova said on "The Early Show" that she was unhappy about the fact that Agassi had lied about crystal meth use and covered it up, until revealing it in his autobiography.

"I am a compassionate person. I was comparing Andre to Roger Clemens only because they both lied about having taken the drugs. I was never suggesting that Andre was taking performance-enhancing drugs, and that he was trying to cheat the game that way. I was upset that he lied about the fact that he took the drugs. Whether he takes crystal meth or not, could I care less about that," CBS quoted Navratilova, as saying.

"I thought he should have owned up to it, just done his three months (suspension) and be done with it, and we would not be talking about it anymore," she added. (ANI)
