Mumbai: 'Holy water' oozing from a cross
Mumbai, Nov 9: Thousands of people flocked to the St Joseph Church in south Mumbai's Umerkhadi on Monday, Nov 9, to see 'holy water' flow out of a cross beside it.

The news of the water oozing out of the 150-year-old cross next to the 72-year-old south Mumbai church spread over night and thousands of people arrived in the morning to collect some of what they believe to be 'holy water'.

While Father Dominic Pereira said that he had 'absolutely no explanation for it', Father Anthony Charanghat, spokesperson for the Archbishop of Mumbai felt that it was too early to explain anything.

"Before we give it any name, we have to first scientifically verify the phenomenon and that is a long process. However, if it helps people in coming closer to god, we welcome it. Though we don't want religion to be reduced to such incidents alone," Charanghat was quoted as saying.

Charanghat also recollected a similar incident he encountered a few years ago in Vasai of Thane district. The water which was seen oozing out of a large iron cross was later attributed to accumulation of some rainwater inside the cross.
