Washington, Nov 9: After much speculations on the authenticity of Lee Harvey Oswald's photograph, John F Kennedy's alleged killer, a digital forensic expert has vouched for the authenticity of the photograph.
Hany Farid, a digital forensic expert at Darmouth College, was able to come to the conclusion after analysing the 3D constructed model of Oswald's head against a background setting, with the pistol in one hand and Marxist newspaper in another.
"It is highly improbable that anyone could have created such a perfect forgery with the technology available in 1963," said Farid based on his analysis using modern-day forensic tools.
Sceptics had questioned the authenticity of the photograph based on the inconsistency of lighting and shadows.
But Farid, who has developed a number of tools to determine tampering of digital photos has said that the play of light could be attributed to the sun.
Farid's research has often been referred by law enforcement officials and also in legal proceedings.
He is also the director Neukom Institute for Computational Science at Dartmouth.
