6.7-magnitude earthquake rocks Indonesia

Jakarta, Nov 9: A 6.7-magnitude earthquake jolted eastern parts of Indonesia on Monday, Nov 9 morning, grounding scores of houses, school buildings and a health clinics and injuring over 30 people.

Even though there has been no confirmation of any fatality yet, the earthquake has sparked off panic among people.

Bima town of the Indonesian province of West Nusa Tenggara which was the closest to the quake's epicenter was the worst-hit. The temblor turned one health clinic, four school buildings and ten houses into rubble and damaged over 50 houses in this town, say media reports.

"Thirty-eight people have been injured and they are being treated at Bima General Hospital," an official from the Health Ministry Rustam Pakaya was quoted as saying in news reports.

With its epicenter at 28 km southwest Raba of West Nusa Tenggara province and at 25 km depth, the quake hit at 02:41 Jakarta time (1941 GMT Sunday, Nov 8).

This comes after 7.6 and 7.3-magnitudes of quakes rocked Indonesian provinces of West Sumatra and West Java respectively. The reconstruction and rehabilitation works are still on.
