By-polls: 20pc voter turnout till mid-day

By-polls: 20pc polling till mid-day
New Delhi, Nov 7: The polls being held for the 31 assembly constituencies across the seven states and one Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh has seen a disappointing 20 pc voting till mid-day on Saturday, Nov 7.

Polling has been largely smooth and peaceful as the para-military forces and other security personnel deployed in the polling constituencies have managed to maintain law and order.

There have been minor complaints related to electronic voting machines at some places, say reports.

While there was 15 pc voter turnout in the polls for 11 Assembly seats, the Firozabad Lok Sabha by-election which was necessitated after Samajwadi Party chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav's son, Akhilesh Yadav left the seat has seen 18 per cent polling.

The polling for 10 assembly constituencies in West Bengal has recorded 23 per cent turnout. West Bengal, which often sees violent clashes between workers of rival political party, too has seen peaceful voting.
