Agra police detain protesting students

Agra, Nov 7 (ANI): Agra police detained physiotherapy students of the Ambedkar University after they blocked a road, demanding appointment of faculty and a separate academic department.

"They tried to block MG road. When they tried to do that, strict action was taken and the road was cleared," said Mahendra Kumar Singh, circle police officer.

The students claimed that they had been approaching the Ambedkar University for the past five days to get their demands fulfilled, but in vain.

They alleged that instead of considering their demands the University workers beat them up.

"We have been going there for the past five days. We were talking to them nicely. Their workers started beating the students. They slapped the girls. They also beat up the boys," said Shilpa Verma, a student.

The students also said that for the past one-and-a-half years, they were deprived of basic educational facilities in their College and the University had turned a deaf ear to their grievances. (ANI)
