Lucknow, Nov 6: After contesting against the Congress in the Lok Sabha election as Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate, social activist, Nafisa Ali has come back to Congress after apologising to Sonia Gandhi.
Calling Congress as her family, Nafisa said, "I have returned to the Congress for life," adding that though she had contested the election as an SP nominee, she was never a member of the party.
Nafisa said that her decision to contest the election was done out of sheer frustration as she wanted to help the people.
She said that she now realised that only Congress could redress the problems of the people.
"I joined the SP as I thought it will help me weaken communal forces. However, later I was not impressed with the functioning of the SP and realised that I cannot achieve the desired objective by working against the Congress," she said.
UPCC president, Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Nafisa's opponent in the Lok Sabha election, said that the rivalry between the two was a thing of the past and both of them will work together for strenghtening the party in Lucknow.
