Lucknow, Nov 5: References to Ramayan marked Samajwadi Party (SP) general secretary Amar Singh's address at a rally in Lucknow's Chandi Chowk.

While he called himself as Hanuman of party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, Mayawati government was referred by him as 'Ravan raj'.

The Samajwadi general secretary compared the case of money laundering filed against him by lawyer Shiva Kant Tripathi in Oct, 2009 to an incident in the epic book.

"Mayawati has set my tail on fire by lodging a case against me in Kanpur and I assure you that I will set Maya's entire corrupt empire on fire," Amar Singh said.

Calling Congress as backstabber, Amar Singh said that despite supporting the party in every decision, Congress has betrayed SP by their activities.

"Be it the confidence motion for the nuclear deal or supporting them in the Lok Sabha election, we were always with the Congress. But now they have forgotten us. We love Rahul Gandhi but the Congress is betraying us by its activities in Firozabad," he said.

The rally was also attended by Sanjay Dutt, actor and party general secretary, whose father, Sunil Dutt was a senior Congress member.

Dutt criticized the Congress saying that although his father stood by the Congress, his father's stint with the party was filled with pain.

Criticism for both the Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party came from Jaya Prada, MP from Rampur, who said that Samajwadi Party was the best option to bring development in the state.

On Nov 7, 2009 Lucknow will go for by-elections for 11 assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat.
