Chandigarh, Nov 4: Even though the family of the kidney patient maintains that it was the Prime Minister's security that caused the death, police and hospital authorities have denied it.

On Tuesday, Nov 3, 32-year-old Sumit Prakash Verma from Ambala died outside the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) as the vehicle carrying him was not allowed to enter the hospital due to the security measures for the prime minister's visit.

However, PGIMER's chief security officer PC Sharma claimed that no patient was stopped from entering the institute during the prime minister's visit.

"They could have been diverted to the wrong gate. No one was stopped from entering the PGIMER," Sharma was quoted as saying in a news agency report.

Denying that allegations that patient's car was stopped, a spokesperson of Chandigarh police claimed that the vehicle was escorted to the emergency wing of the PGIMER.

The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh was at the institute to attend a convocation function between 11.30 am and 2.30 pm.

The police also say that PGIMER emergency treated 32 patients between 8 am and 1 pm against an average of 22 patients.
