Military institution to be safeguarded, says Government

New Delhi, Nov 4 (ANI): With the prestigious National Defence College (NDC) in New Delhi reportedly being one of the prime targets of the Lakshar-e-Taiba, the Indian Government today said, "adequate precaution" is being taken to safeguard the military institution.

"I think there is a constant review of threat perceptions and targets and we work on the safeguards adequately. You can be rest assured that adequate precaution is taken wherever there is a threat perception," said Minister of state for Defence MM Pallam Raju.

David Coleman Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana who were recently arrested by the FBI for plotting a major terror attack in India at the behest of the Pakistan based LET have revealed that they were even planning to attack the NDC.

The National Defence College trains selected senior Defence and Civil Services officers in national and international security-related fields and promote research and understanding of various linked issues.

Officers at the brigadier-level and above from the three services and their civilian counterparts are trained by the NDC.

Representatives from friendly countries are also included in the different courses run there.

The National Defence College trains about 130 officers at a time. (ANI)

Colombo: US, Italy Ambassadors injured

Colombo, Feb 27:  At least six people, including the US and Italian Ambassadors to Sri Lanka, have been wounded in suspected LTTE shelling in the Eastern Batticaloa district today, military and diplomatic sources here said. According to the sources, the military helicopter carrying Sri Lankan Minister for Disaster Management and Human Rights Mahinda Samarasinghe, US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Robert O Blake and Italian Ambassador Pio Mariani, was landing when the shells suspectedly fired by the LTTE hit the landing pad.....
